THE WHISPERING DARK
The Whispering Dark is a photographic series that considers how domestic environments shape our emotional lives. Created in historic interiors and mysterious landscapes, the work layers figure, architecture, and shadow to conjure moments when memory, fear, and longing quietly surface.
I am drawn to the moments when beauty and unease coexist, and this series is rooted in my personal experience of growing up in the apartment above an extraordinary and eclectic museum, surrounded by ancient art, artifacts, and the ghosts of history. My home felt quietly haunted, as if the walls held secrets and the rooms were filled with untold stories. I am returning to that childhood atmosphere through my images of empty hallways, dimly lit rooms, and overgrown gardens, where my own sense of wonder and vulnerability surface.
The work asks how we carry the past within us, how childhood perceptions linger into adulthood, and how the spaces we once called home, both protective and confining, continue to shape our sense of safety, fear, and belonging long after we leave them.
